Job Description – Data Centre Installation Engineer
Location: Reykjanesbær, Iceland (Verne Data Centre)
Project Overview
We are supporting a large-scale data centre deployment for a global customer, requiring a team of experienced Data Centre Installation Engineers to deliver high-quality cabling, rack installation, and equipment deployment works. This is a mission-critical project with strict quality, safety, and presentation standards.
Project Details
- Location: Reykjanesbær, Iceland (Verne Data Centre)
- Estimated Start Date: April (following completion of Iceland phase)
- Number of Engineers: 32 total
- Shift Coverage:
- 16 engineers per shift
- 10–12 hour shifts
- Monday to Saturday
Scope of Work
Engineers will be responsible for the installation, labelling, and connection of approximately 15,000 cables within a single data hall, following manufacturer specifications and best-practice data centre standards.
Cabling Scope (indicative, subject to change):
- ~12,912 MPO (8 or 12 fibre)
- ~400 LC–LC fibre cables
- ~200 AOC split fibre cables
- ~1,111 copper cables
- Cable lengths ranging from 2m to 50m
Infrastructure & Equipment Installation:
- Installation of APC 750x1200 network racks (x68)
- Installation of free-issue GPU racks – 600x1200 (x64)
- Installation of optics as per P2P mapping (20,000+ connections)
- Rack & stack of approximately 200 devices
- Power-on and basic validation of installed equipment
Key Responsibilities
- Execute structured cabling installations with a high standard of workmanship and presentation
- Accurately label and document all cabling and connections
- Install network and GPU racks in accordance with site drawings and manufacturer guidelines
- Install optics and patching in line with point-to-point (P2P) maps
- Support rack & stack activities and power-on procedures
- Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, and site compliance requirements
- Work collaboratively within shift teams to meet project milestones
Engineer Tooling & Equipment Requirements
Engineers are expected to arrive with, or have access to, the following (non-exhaustive):

- Compact battery drill with screwdriver & Allen key bits
- Masonry and metal drill bits
- Security screwdriver bits
- 16mm or 20mm hole cutters
- Label printer (black on white, with spare tape)
- Tape measure, marker pen, scissors
- Screwdrivers, Allen keys, small socket set
- Cable cutters and side cutters
- Head torch
- 6–8 tread steps (up to 3m safe working height)
- Assorted fixings for ceiling mounting
- Cable rods and floor lifter
- MPO One-Click cleaners (x16)
- LC One-Click cleaners (x4)
Sundries
- Velcro and cable ties
- Insulation tape
- IPA lint-free fibre wipes
PPE Requirements
- Safety boots
- Hard hat
- High-visibility vest
- Protective gloves
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience working in data centre environments
- Hands-on expertise in fibre (MPO/LC) and copper cabling
- Experience with rack installation and structured cabling systems
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- Ability to work long shifts in a controlled, safety-critical environment
