Desktop Support Engineer
Location: Manchester (Onsite)
Rate: £200 per day (Umbrella contractors only – Inside IR35)
Contract Length: 6 months
Start Date: ASAP
Overview
We are looking for a Desktop Support Engineer to join an established IT support team based in Manchester on a 6-month contract. The role will focus on delivering reliable, high-quality onsite end-user support across a corporate IT environment.
This position is Inside IR35 and will be engaged via an umbrella company.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1st and 2nd line desktop support to onsite users
- Act as part of the onsite IT support team, following established processes and procedures
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues relating to:
- Windows 10/11
- Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint)
- Laptops, desktops, printers, and peripherals
- Carry out hardware builds, imaging, deployments, and break/fix support
- Manage user accounts and access via Active Directory (joiners, movers, leavers)
- Log, update, and resolve incidents and requests via the service desk system
- Escalate unresolved issues to senior support teams where required
- Provide support for meeting rooms, AV equipment, and connectivity issues
- Follow IT policies, security standards, and change management processes
Required Skills & Experience
- Demonstrable experience in a Desktop Support / IT Support role
- Strong working knowledge of Windows OS and Microsoft 365
- Experience using Active Directory
- Good understanding of desktop and laptop hardware
- Strong customer service skills with a professional, team-focused approach
- Ability to work effectively within a structured IT environment
Desirable Skills
- Exposure to Intune, SCCM, or endpoint management tools
- Basic networking knowledge (LAN/WiFi)
- Experience working in a corporate or enterprise IT function
