Job Description – Network Engineer (Shift-Based Operations)

Role Overview
We are seeking a Network Engineer (L2 / Operations-focused) to support a large-scale enterprise network environment in a shift-based 24/7 operational model. The role focuses on incident response, troubleshooting, monitoring, and operational support, working as part of a wider team providing continuous coverage.
This is a hands-on role suited to engineers with solid networking fundamentals and experience working within established procedures and escalation frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor network systems and respond to incidents and alerts during assigned shifts
- Troubleshoot network-related issues and perform initial root cause analysis
- Escalate complex or service-impacting incidents to senior engineering teams as required
- Support resolution of high-priority incidents in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Collect logs, packet captures, and diagnostic data to support investigations and post-incident reviews
- Execute standard network changes following approved procedures and change controls
- Participate in operational rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays as part of a structured shift schedule
- Use monitoring and ticketing systems to track incidents and document resolutions
- Assist with routine RCA activities and follow-up actions
- Coordinate with vendors and internal support teams where required
Required Skills & Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in network operations or enterprise support environments
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals
- Working knowledge of BGP and OSPF
- Hands-on experience with Routing & Switching concepts
- Exposure to configuring and supporting:
- Routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers
- Experience with one or more networking platforms:
- Cisco, Juniper, Arista, F5
- Familiarity with network operating systems such as:
- IOS, IOS-XR, NXOS, JUNOS, EOS (SONiC exposure is a plus)
- Understanding of enterprise networking concepts including:
- VLANs, STP, HSRP
- MPLS, L3 VPNs, VRFs (operational understanding)
- Ability to follow runbooks, procedures, and operational tooling
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and attention to detail
Nice to Have
- Exposure to packet capture and basic traffic analysis tools
- Experience working in a NOC or 24/7 operational environment
- Familiarity with ITIL-style incident and change processes
Certifications (Preferred, Not Mandatory)
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP – partial or in progress acceptable
