Senior Data Engineer – Retail Data Products

Overview
We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer to lead the design, strategy, and execution of complex data products within the retail sector. This high-level role is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of retail data pipelines—covering sales, inventory, store traffic, RFID, promotions, workforce management, omni-channel sales, and store operations.
You'll collaborate with global stakeholders across the US, Asia, and Europe to deliver scalable data solutions that drive business value and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Shape and execute the data product vision and roadmap across core retail domains.
- Design and manage robust data pipelines and architectures supporting retail KPIs.
- Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and business leaders to turn requirements into working data products.
- Act as the central point of contact and SME for retail data initiatives.
- Lead requirements gathering and prioritisation across business and technical teams.
- Define and track success metrics and KPIs to drive product adoption and performance.
- Champion best practices around data governance, security, and compliance.
- Deliver clear documentation, training, and user support to maximise adoption.
- Stay up to date on emerging technologies, data trends, and retail innovations.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering and retail-focused data product ownership.
- Deep knowledge of retail business processes: POS, inventory, promotions, omni-channel sales, and store operations.
- Proven ability to build scalable, reliable data pipelines (batch & streaming).
- Experience working with cloud platforms (preferably GCP), SQL, and modern data tools.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and analytical skills.
- Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams.
- Ability to translate complex business needs into technical specifications.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with GCP, BigQuery, dbt, and orchestration tools like Airflow.
- Background in consulting or multi-client environments.
- Familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau or Looker.
- Experience driving adoption of data products in global teams.
